Nimble giant beer review1/21/2024 ![]() The owners are on site in the business every day. They also host a weekly Friday & Saturday Night event Dinner and Band starting at 6:00 pm. Since their opening in November 2011, they have expanded and modified and now use the large deck for events such as Weddings, Receptions, Party’s or any other personal occasion. The first planting phase started in 2010, the second in 2011 and the final stage in 2012, completing the transformation from an old apple orchard into a beautiful grape vineyard. The dreams took off from there and Bill started clearing the old apple orchards and after many long hours and help from our family and friends the first holes were dug, the first posts were anchored in the ground, until the last wire was stretched across the rows of the new orchard. Over the years, friends and family would joke around with Bill saying, “Hay Buddy Boy” and one day, while drinking a glass of wine Bill decided ‘Buddy Boy Winery and Vineyard’ would be the name of our new winery. The property was then passed down through the family to the current owners who had a dream to plant a vineyard and make wine. The dream was to create an apple orchard, they cleared the land and started selling apples and making cider.Īs the years passed by, the apple trees grew old, and there wasn’t much time to keep up with the orchard or to make cider. It all started in 1964 when, Marlin Woodward, purchased 6 acres, in the heart of the Cove in Perry County, PA, from Zip Barnett. My husband, son and I have lived on this property for 30 years, within the home my husband built from the ground up, using trees growing on our property. I have lived in the Cove all my life, growing up about one mile from the property we call home. Nestled in a beautiful horseshoe valley in Perry County, called The Cove, is where the magic takes place. ![]() And their menu is fairly large with daily specials including shrimp, steak and large dinners. They pride themselves in their wine and it's quite good, they also have a number of PA beers on tap. Below the dek are horse shoes and a large fire pit to sit by summer fires. ![]() The winery has a large deck attached to use in good weather with a number of tables. I recall as a child, Zip walking down the aisles of the orchard, talking to himself and always bringing a bag of candy for my brother, sisters and I, while we picked apples from the tree. There are a couple 6 seat tables and a couple 4 seat tables. There is a straight line bar that sits around 10 but they leave at least 2 seats open for wine tasting. The place obviously takes pride in their "hillybilly" designation (they put that on themselves). Once inside the walls and tables are knotty pine style wood with animal heads hung on the walls. The door threshold is flat and can be rolled through easily. If you can get the disability spot it has amazing disability access. ![]() It had a long porch on it, though narrow, and disabled parking that was paved (even though the parking lot is stone) which you could roll a wheel chair out of your vehicle and straight down the porch. The first thing I noticed pulling up to the winery is it is way back in the hills and looks like a barn. There may be some fires and some concerts but there will most always be BEER. In this journal you will find my tales of beer, with a few human friends and some relatives along for the ride at times. I live in Shade Mountain, my dwelling is a mystery as you must enter a cave to find the hole. I'm not there yet, I'm only 173 and have many good years left in me. I decided to post my travels to a journal so I could reflect back when I'm to old to travel. My name is John Thomas and I am a traveling gnome that absolutely loves beer.
